Persons Living With HIV & AIDS (PLWHIV) now have confidence in themselves and are prepared to lead a dignified and quality life befitting God's creation. Religious leaders are having a change of mind and very reflective in their sermons which now shows more acceptance than blame, shame and condemnation of PLWHIVs.

One major success is that traditional, religious and opinion leaders, teachers, health workers, media and PLWHIVs in the selected districts are working together and the results are very encouraging. .....read more

 

Stigma Reduction Campaign (Vol. 2)

For eight years now Beatrice had not heard from her husband. The last conversation they had was when Beatrice called to inform him that she was an HIV positive.

In 2002, Madam Beatrice was totally shocked when her HIV/AIDS positive status was disclosed to her at the Atua Government Hospital in the Eastern Region. Beatrice’s initial reaction was not different from most Persons living with HIV/AIDS when they were first told about their status. She considered many options including suicide. “I felt my life was over and so many things came into my mind including killing myself”.

Thank God Beatrice had not killed herself. She had some timely support from the Network of Persons Living With HIV/AIDS. Beatrice was counselled and admitted to become a member of the network that currently supports over three hundred (300) HIV/AIDS support groups in the country. “Initially I decided to poison myself but with my engagement with the Support Group, I’m okay and I sometimes forget that I’m HIV positive”, she stated.
