Christian Council of Ghana's maiden Ecumenical Convention held in Accra

  


The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has held its first ever Ecumenical Convention in Accra.


The event that took place at the University of Ghana, Legon brought together denominational heads and the Local Council of Churches under the theme "Uniting the Body of Christ for Greater Impact"


Speakers at the Convention stressed on the importance of Christian unity, stating that without unity the Body of Christ is bound to fail.


In his welcome address, the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, the Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose described the programme as a remarkable turning point in the life of the Church in Ghana, stating that it seeks to move ecumenism beyond the normal rhetorics into real fellowship, collective witness and shared mission.



He said, National unity can only be relevant when local unity is visible. The Church can only have a louder voice when it rises from the grassroots, "he stated.

Mr. Fred Oware, the campaign Chairman of the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia team, representing him conveyed his goodwill message and support for the goal of the convention emphasizing unity among Christian denominations.

Notable among the Church leaders at the event were the Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, Former Preising Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rev. Enoch Thompson, Vice Chairman, Christian Counci of Ghana, Bishop Lawson Adjei, immediate past vice chairman of the Council, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, General Secretary of the Council, amongst other important Church leaders.

Human Rights and Gender


The Council believes that the right of citizens, especially women, children and the disabled should be protected by all. In view of that, it works to ensure that there is respect for fundamental human right which includes the right to live, the right to education, the right to free speech and the right to movement with the view of ensuring peace.
