CHRISTIAN COUNCIL OF GHANA MOURNS WITH THE PEOPLE OF UGANDA OVER TRAGIC LOSS OF SEVERAL INNOCENT LIVES
The Christian Council of Ghana received with a heavy and grieving heart the extremely-heart wrenching news of the horrific tragic road accident that claimed the innocent lives of over 20 pupils and a teacher of King David Junior School in Uganda, when returning to Kampala from an educational tour to Sipi Falls on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Close to two weeks since the occurrence of this tragic incident, we stand before God in deep sorrow. The Council deeply regrets the magnitude of this loss of children who left homes, set out with joy and laughter in their hearts, full of dreams of a bright future, but did not return home to the loving arms of parents and families to share what they had set out to learn on the trip.
We weep with the mothers and fathers whose arms now ache with emptiness; with siblings who have lost playmates; with teachers who looked forward to grooming the children as their own; a community that would never forget this excruciating pain, and a nation that gasps for breath at this painful moment.
To the leadership, staff, and school community of King David Junior School, and the Government and people of Uganda, know that you are not alone in this moment of anguish.
Ghana, as a sister nation bound by faith, humanity, and the shared soil of this continent, holds you in our prayers. We ask the Good Lord of all comfort, who draws near to the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, to grant peace that surpasses all understanding to every grieving family, and strength to every community touched by this tragedy.
We commend the souls of the dearly departed children and teacher into the loving hands of the Almighty, trusting that they now rest in the eternal embrace of a God who welcomes His little ones.
To the injured and traumatised, we pray for full and speedy recovery, and to the medical teams and first responders who laboured through the initial stages to prevent a more devasting death toll, we say God bless each and every one of you for reaching out.
The Christian Council of Ghana calls on the Church in Ghana and across Africa to continue in prayer for Uganda, and to extend whatever support – spiritual and material, that may bring comfort to the immediate families and the communities worse hit by this sad event.
Mathew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted”. May God Himself comfort us all.
May the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, cover the nation of Uganda at this time.
