Rev. Dr. Fayose Meets the Press ahead of the 2026 Christian Home Week Celebrations

Full Statement

March 31, 2026

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Media,

Good morning and welcome.

We meet during this Holy Week—a sacred period of reflection on the sacrifice, humility, and obedience of our Lord Jesus Christ. This season calls us to renew our commitment to godly living, compassion, and responsibility toward one another and God’s creation.

At the outset, the Christian Council of Ghana expresses its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent building collapse in Accra New Town, which tragically claimed three lives and left many others injured. We unequivocally condemn the negligence and failures that lead to such preventable disasters. We call for a full investigation and strict enforcement of building regulations to safeguard lives.

Ladies and Gentlemen,.

We are here today to announce three important initiatives:

• The 2026 Christian Home Week (CHW) Celebrations

• The launch of the Christian Council’s Environmental Care and Cleanliness (ECC) Programme

• CCG National Volunteers Programme

These initiatives respond to the growing environmental crisis facing our nation. Recent national and global observances—including the International Day of Forests and World Water Day—remind us of our shared duty to protect God’s creation.

Yet Ghana’s environment is under severe threat. Illegal mining (galamsey) has polluted major rivers such as the Pra, Ankobra, Birim, and Offin, while poor waste management continues to degrade our communities and endanger public health.

This year’s Christian Home Week is therefore on the theme:
“A Clean Environment, Our Responsibility.”

The Christian Home Week remains one of our flagship platforms for engaging churches and communities on national issues. This year, it seeks to reawaken our collective responsibility to care for the environment as stewards of God’s creation.

As part of the celebrations, we will launch a study guide to support nationwide education and action. Topics include:

• Biblical perspectives on environmental stewardship

• Environmental sanitation laws in Ghana

• The impact of illegal mining (galamsey)

• Practical steps for environmental conservation

The official launch will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nima Parish of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana. In addition, we are introducing the CCG National Volunteers’ Programme (NAVOP) to mobilize citizens—especially our Local Councils of Churches—to actively participate in environmental care and community service.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The state of sanitation in Ghana remains deeply concerning. Large volumes of waste are poorly managed, drainage systems are choked, and preventable diseases such as cholera persist. Weak enforcement of sanitation laws and rapid urbanization continue to worsen the situation.

Environmental care is not optional—it is essential for our survival, health, and future. Clean air, safe water, food security, and human well-being all depend on how we treat our environment.

We therefore call on:

• Government and local authorities to enforce environmental and sanitation laws

• Corporate Ghana to support sustainable initiatives

• The media to amplify advocacy and public education

• All citizens to act responsibly in protecting our environment

The rains have begun, and with them come the risks of flooding and disease. Our actions today will determine the safety and sustainability of our tomorrow. We are pleased to announce ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs through a proposed three-year partnership (2026–2028) to sustain this initiative.

In conclusion, we invite you all to join us on April 30 for the official launch of the Environmental Care and Cleanliness Programme and the 2026 Christian Home Week.

Let us remember:
Leader: A clean environment
Response: Our responsibility

Thank you, and may God bless The Christian Council of Ghana and May God bless our homeland Ghana.
